The understanding of how diet impacts colorectal cancer has evolved, moving beyond a simplistic view of "fatty foods" to a more refined focus on specific fat types and their sources. Research indicates that while some fats may pose a substantial threat, others appear to offer protective benefits or have no clear association with the disease. In contrast to the risks posed by certain fats, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, often referred to as "healthy fats," may play a protective role.
